Zoo Life, Habitats and the Indigenous Soul

hard time on the killing floor/catfish blues

The cube farm, apartments, condos, sitting all day, the crap we eat; it seems we are as factory farmed as the animals in our industrial food system.

Returning to a more natural diet, getting regular and good movement throughout your whole day; these are all good steps. I’d also like to offer, enjoying the sunrise and the sunset as many times as possible. I also recommend looking at the stars at night more than TV. I recommend getting in the sun. I even recommend doing a bit of it naked.

Catch a fire. Dance around it. Talk and laugh with your friends and family. Climb a tree, or two. Swim. Hunt. Fish. Run. Walk. Listen to the birds. Be curious. Explore.

Joy and Wonder.

Sometimes, when a bird cries out,
Or the wind sweeps through a tree,
Or a dog howls in a far off farm,
I hold still and listen a long time.

My soul turns and goes back to the place
Where, a thousand forgotten years ago,
The bird and the blowing wind
Were like me, and were my brothers.

My soul turns into a tree,
And an animal, and a cloud bank.
Then changed and odd it comes home
And asks me questions. What should I reply?
